Mission Statement

We believe that Saint Helena School in Bellefonte is a visible, spiritual, worshipping community which serves the religious and educational needs of the children of Saint Helena parish and the surrounding communities, without discrimination according to race, color, or religious belief.

We believe that "educational programs for the young must strive to teach doctrine, to do so within the experience of Christian community, and to prepare individuals for effective Christian witness and service to others" (To Teach As Jesus Did, National Conference of Catholic Bishops, November, 1972, page 22). We believe that we can best fulfill this mission by:

  1. Implementing policies that are clearly defined and enforced by the principal and staff as well as evaluating our students through a variety of assessments in each curriculum area.
  2. Creating a Christian educational community where human culture and knowledge are shared in a Spirit of freedom and love.
  3. Recognizing and affirming that the development of the child must be a partnership among faculty, students, parents, and the entire Church community.
  4. Striving for academic excellence through maintenance of current curriculum programs and a highly qualified staff in our elementary school, (kindergarten through Grade eight).

Philosophy

Saint Helena School strives to create an atmosphere of love and concern for all, so that each student may be an extension of Christ's compassion in the world. The fundamental goal of our educational ministry is the creation of a Christian educational community where human culture and knowledge, enlightened by faith, are shared in a spirit of freedom and love. As a Catholic school, instruction in religious truth and values is an integral part of, and the underlying basis of our school program.

We endeavor to educate the whole person. We exist to educate the child toward moral perfection, academic excellence, responsible citizenship, cultural awareness, and physical development. We envision ourselves as giving our children a wealth of experiences, concepts, and information that will help them to enjoy the wonders of life now, and attain the fullest development of their human potential in future years.

In all these undertakings, we recognize and affirm that the development of the child must be a partnership among faculty, students, parents, and the entire Parish community. We believe that to succeed in the classroom, we need continual cooperation of parents. We, also, believe that children are strengthened by homes where virtue is practiced and serious study is encouraged. Faculty, students, parents, and the Parish community share mutual responsibility for the success of these educational endeavors which build-up, not only our school community, but also the entire Body of Christ.
